Theo's a good guy. (And my dad. :)

I used to be Louis_Wu, but decided to come back with my real name.

  .   .   .

Yeah, let me explain that.

In the 7 months or so between September 2003 and April 2004 my interest in Perl and my activity in Perlmonks waned. In retrospect, I think this was because I could never find anything to do with Perl. I was trying to learn Perl and programming, but every pet project I started or thought of was beyond me - a s‎crip‎t to trawl through an iTunes library and clean things up doesn't seem like a big deal, but I didn't know what a reference was, so I would have been in deep over my head.

In Spring of 2004 some friends invited me over for an evening of video games. I wasn't too hot on sitting in front of an Xbox - but it was a chance to spend time with a bunch of my friends. That evening of Halo was the most fun I'd had in a long time. A month later they had another evening of games, and I was smitten - I loved Halo.

I bought an Xbox and Halo. I played. I obsessed.

Then in November of 2004 the sequel came out. I played Halo 2. I became more obsessed. I'd come home after work and spend hours and hours playing through the Campaign/storyline. Then I started playing multiplayer online. And I became obsessed. Again. (Notice a pattern here somewhere?)

So, at about the same time that I was losing interest in Perl I just happened to find a new obsession.

What's this got to do with my new handle? Well, back in 2004 when I went to register at the biggest Halo fan site (halo.bungie.org), I found that my nick was taken.

By the site founder.

So, after 2 years of thinking of Louis_Wu as the Big Cheese at the biggest fan site of my favorite game, I can't just pick up that nick at PerlMonks again. It just feels WRONG. Hence my new nick.
