Quooker. (Once you're used to one, you don't want anything else

And then the electricity goes out and you're trapped :)

That is the same for all electric appliances in the suggested list. Fallback to gas-oven is always available when the electricity dies, but imho, "tea" is not my first problem when that happens.

So you're not the kind of addict who, when he wakes up and sees there's no electricity, drinks some instant coffee to have enough strength to make real coffee on the gas to have enough strength to restore electricity?

... to make a coffee to really get up :)

Maybe I am addict. I have a Jura coffee machine at home. Coming down after the shower, turning it on is the first action. It can be personalized, and my coffee setting is somewhere between strong espresso and ristretto. When working from home in the morning, I take 4 doubles of those. Addicted? maybe. But when I carefully choose my beans, all other coffee tastes so awful that I rather drink water.

That reminds my of YAPC Birmingham. The breakfast room did have an espresso machine in the adjacent room that produced really good coffee. Maybe someone I had breafast with remembers how often I visited that machine :)
