I think you overestimate how much Sun controls MySQL.

Doesn't Oracle own the innodb code? That strikes me as far more worrying than the Sun aquisition.

    It's open source, just like the rest of MySQL, and Oracle has done nothing to threaten that. Notice how Oracle bought BerkeleyDB and has done nothing to harm it either.
