&lt;p&gt;Net::SFTP appears to use the &lt;c&gt;getservbyname&lt;/c&gt; function to map a service name and protocol (&lt;c&gt;"ssh", "tcp"&lt;/c&gt;) to a port (22). The &lt;c&gt;getservbyname&lt;/c&gt; function looks up the service name in the system's services file.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;On Unix this is typically &lt;c&gt;/etc/services&lt;/c&gt;. On Windows, it's typically &lt;c&gt;C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\services&lt;/c&gt;. Make sure that this file exists, and &lt;c&gt;"ssh"&lt;/c&gt; is listed correctly.&lt;/p&gt;
