As Ubuntu is based on Debian, install the mod_perl package as [http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debian-reference/ch02.en.html#_basic_package_management_operations|described] in the Debian reference manual. [http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=mod-perl|Ubuntu  package search] shows that it is packaged in the main repository, so you shouldn't have any problem installing it.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Besides, the reason of complaining about &lt;c&gt;-lperl&lt;/c&gt; is absence of necessary development packages containing headers and libraries to link with; check the presence of &lt;c&gt;libperl-dev&lt;/c&gt; package.&lt;/p&gt;
