Plan.  Then plan some more.&lt;P&gt;
Don't just plan in your head.  Write it down.  Draw pictures.  Develop &lt;A HREF="http://deming.eng.clemson.edu/pub/tutorials/qctools/flowm.htm"&gt;flow charts&lt;/A&gt;.  Think about the &lt;A HREF="http://www.wikipedia.com/wiki/Data_structure"&gt;data structures&lt;/A&gt; you'll need.  Work out rough &lt;A HREF="http://www.yourdon.com/books/msa2e/CH09/CH09.html"&gt;dataflow diagrams&lt;/A&gt;.  Think it through. (Given that it's just you working on this project alone, I wouldn't bother with a &lt;A HREF="http://www.caam.rice.edu/~timredl/caam376/LectureNotes/Lecture27/sld001.htm"&gt;PERT/CPM analysis&lt;/A&gt;.)&lt;P&gt;
Set it aside for a day or two.  Read it again.  Plan some more.&lt;P&gt;
Time spent planning is never wasted.&lt;P&gt;
