note gjb It's quite a while ago, and maybe I didn't look hard enough, but two modules come to mind: <a href="http://search.cpan.org/author/GBARR/Scalar-List-Utils-1.0701/">List::Util</a> and <a href="http://search.cpan.org/author/GSAR/Tie-IxHash-1.21/">Tie::IxHash</a>.
