With any normal perl build process there is no need to run &lt;c&gt;make&lt;/c&gt; if you run &lt;c&gt;make test&lt;/c&gt;. The &lt;c&gt;test&lt;/c&gt; target will do the build process as needed before executing the tests. Bare &lt;c&gt;make&lt;/c&gt; is only really needed if you want to build but explicitly &lt;i&gt;not&lt;/i&gt; test afterwards.
