&lt;LI&gt;NULL -- Why SELECT anything at all?&lt;/LI&gt;
&lt;LI&gt;'NULL' -- Null strings are best&lt;/LI&gt;
&lt;LI&gt;'/dev/null' -- In case you nix the other ideas&lt;/LI&gt;
&lt;LI&gt;'NUL' -- Used in all Windows of opportunity&lt;/LI&gt;
&lt;LI&gt;Avoid the issue by using IN() stead&lt;/LI&gt;
&lt;LI&gt;Convolute the issue by doing a join&lt;/LI&gt;
