&lt;p&gt;Have an upvote. I do feel this is more of a style guide than "best practices", but it's nice to see people thinking of these things.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;[dist://Perl::Critic] has been mentioned a couple of times. I have a reasonable introduction to it in &lt;a href="http://ofps.oreilly.com/titles/9781118013847/common_tasks.html"&gt;Chapter 18 of my book&lt;/a&gt; (I'm not sure how long O'Reilly and Wrox will keep that online, but it's free for now). You'll learn enough to use Perl::Critic for catching code issues and how to configure it for your personal tastes.
