Feeping Creature

I was just think that a nifty addition to the monastery would be the option to have chatterbox msgs e-mailed to you and checked off. I would not suggest making this the default, but it would be a useful feature. You could be altered by e-mail when someone responds to your nodes. Maybe make a fancy version that only e-mails you your msgs if you aren't "in" the monastery. I don't know, it was just a thought. What do people think?

On a similar vein... I think it would be nice if you got a msg when you change levels. This is especially nifty in conjunction with my first suggestion because you would get an e-mail saying that you were now a new level...

This is very funny. Just today I was thinking of writing a "PerlMonks pager", a program that checks every once in a while and emails you your personal messages. Using PerlMonks::Chat, it would be quite easy, and doesn't require changes to the server. The program could even check them off automatically.

Maybe I'll give this a try during the weekend :-)

Heh. I'm not sure I like the idea of being altered [sic] by e-mail...

But, if you need to be alerted by e-mail, doesn't that mean you're not checking in often enough?

    e-mail jcwren
That's what I get for not proof reading. <grin>.

No, it doesn't mean you're not checking in often enough. It would actually encourage you to check in more often. See, if I don't check in often, and I keep geting these e-mails, then I know that I should check in more often... each e-mail is like an invitation to check the site.

update: Er... YES, it does mean you're not checking in often enough... there is that proof reading again. sigh.

Each e-mail would inevitably have to end with something like:
Check this link in the next 24 hours or else.
