lib:English

See the current Perl documentation for lib:English.

Here is our local, out-dated (pre-5.6) version:

English - use nice English (or awk) names for ugly punctuation variables

    use English;
    ...
    if ($ERRNO =~ /denied/) { ... }

This module provides aliases for the built-in variables whose names no one seems to like to read. Variables with side-effects which get triggered just by accessing them (like $0) will still be affected.

For those variables that have an awk version, both long and short English alternatives are provided. For example, the $/ variable can be referred to either $RS or $INPUT_RECORD_SEPARATOR if you are using the English module.

See perlvar for a complete list of these.

[Corion]: I think there's always some Dell coupon around, at least I got one the last two times I bought a machine from them
[1nickt]: I have been an apostate in the Apple orchard for almost 15 years. But Dells are still high quality it seems, unlike Macs these days.
[1nickt]: And you can still configure the system at will, on the "Small Business" site.
[Corion]: 1nickt: I bought a 2015 XPS 13, which is a very nice and shiney (and somewhat overpriced) machine, but I think it's still better priced than an Apple machine. Now it just has to hold up 10 years like the old one did ;)
