What is the purpose of making your own photo editor? Do you have some sort of special functionality in mind?

Rather than rolling your own, you could add features to another editor, such as GIMP, which is extendable through plugin and scripting APIs.

    Absolutely not, I just want to integrate it into my existing system, pass it variables have it pass things back to me, behave according the GUI standards set in other windows etc.,

    But I'll a look at GIMP, really all I need is a framework.
