Forgive me my ignorance, but what is the "BI open source project". Is it about "Business Intelligence"? And if so indeed, what is "BEI"?

A program should be light and agile, its subroutines connected like a string of pearls. The spirit and intent of the program should be retained throughout. There should be neither too little or too much, neither needless loops nor useless variables, neither lack of structure nor overwhelming rigidity." - The Tao of Programming, 4.1 - Geoffrey James

My guess for 'BI' was 'BioInformatics', but I'm still in the dark on 'BEI'.

We need a bit more context here. "BEI" can refer to:
    1. BEI Resources -- a source of chemical tools to study various diseases.
    2. BEI Engineering-- a company the produces position sensors
    3. BEI Construction -- an electrical design firm
    4. BEI Hawaii -- an agricultural product firm
    5. etc.
"BI" has even more multiple definitions.

Define your terms and we may be able to give you a more definite answer.
