in reply to Perl world BI open source project is BEI?

We need a bit more context here. "BEI" can refer to:
  1. BEI Resources -- a source of chemical tools to study various diseases.
  2. BEI Engineering-- a company the produces position sensors
  3. BEI Construction -- an electrical design firm
  4. BEI Hawaii -- an agricultural product firm
  5. etc.
"BI" has even more multiple definitions.

Define your terms and we may be able to give you a more definite answer.

[jdporter]: I guess that the most direct way of doing it is with some magical incantation involving unpack or whatever
[jdporter]: let me google that for me ;-)
[jdporter]: hex points explicitly to oct, which does the job. :-D
[jdporter]: omg, I f love Perl!
[choroba]: say unpack 'H*', pack 'B*', $mask =~ /0b([01]+)/;
[choroba]: use C instead of H to get the decimal number
[erix]: ( no love like f love )
[choroba]: f* love
