Recommened website for Perl contracts, way to find customers on-line?
I fear that in the long run now we are seeing the beginnings of a true sea change. “Software as a service” is commoditizing a great many things, and using the economy of scale to serve thousands of businesses at once – yes, the old timesharing model. Google Docs really helped to hammer home the idea, both that you no longer have to pay tens of thousands of dollars to get something, and that, having actually spent that kind of money, you might wind up with something inferior to what your competitor got, having spent next-to nothing. No, I’m not trivializing the situation ... I think you can understand the boundaries of what I do and don’t mean here. There still is a need for software engineers, but a different need. The times, they are a’changin’, and the competition is ratcheting up while the fundamental demand profile is changing course. Again.
