pelos has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

hello everyone, I'm new to Perl, well to programming in general. I've been playing with PYQT and I want to start doing a GUI but I get this error message
cpan> install QtCore4 Reading 'C:\Perl64\cpan\Metadata' Database was generated on Sun, 21 Apr 2013 08:41:02 GMT Running install for module 'QtCore4' Running make for C/CB/CBUREL/Qt4-0.99.0.tar.bz2 CPAN.pm needs the external program bzip2 in order to handle 'C:\Perl64 +\cpan\sour ces\authors\id\C\CB\CBUREL\Qt4-0.99.0.tar.bz2'. Please install it now and run 'o conf init bzip2' from the CPAN shell prompt to register it as external program. cpan> o conf init bzip2 C:\Program Files (x86)\GnuWin32\bin 'C:Program' is not a valid configuration variable
I downloaded the bzip2 and i am following this http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2008/12/how-to-resolve-cpanpm-needs-tar-gzip-and-bzip2-installed-error-message/ And here is where I'm stuck, do you have any tips or recommendations regarding what to do to set up the bzip? thanks guys.

Welcome to Perl, pelos! First, when you do o conf init, don't forget to give the absolute path. For example:
    cpan>o conf init bzip2 C:\Program Files (x86)\GnuWin32-bin/bzip2
    Then run o conf commit:
    cpan>o conf commit
Note that you will also need to download and install the external program QT4. You might enjoy Perl/Tk more than Qt4. It's also much easier to install and use. Good luck!
