If you're using ActiveState Perl:

ppm install dmake

Note the architecture differences and version availability. I think cpan should try to install this for you if it can't be found. What problems are you having? Strawberry Perl has this as standard.

Note the architecture differences and version availability

For me, the dmake-4.12 that's available from SHAY's cpan directory works fine with both 32-bit and 64-bit perls (from perl-5.6.0 onwards, at least).

Admittedly, as regards 64-bit perls, I haven't tested this dmake with pre-5.10.0 perl.

    Cheers,
    Rob

I was illustrating the point that AS don't make it available for certain versions of Perl on 64Bit via PPM, rather than suggesting that it wouldn't work if manually installed via cpan (by manual or automated means). I seem to reall that a first run of cpan detects the lack of dmake/MinGW and attempts to download and install them.

I'm keen to understand why OP can't install from cpan. If they're working "offline" then my suggestion won't be of much help. This is why I travel with Strawberry Perl and a minicpan mirror on my phone :)

well I am on proxy which is not allowing it to download it automatically so i have to do it manually :p
