Obviously, take the throne, keep it, and fix the security hole. Since I'm not vindictive, the former Prince could wear purple and party like it's 1999.

Updated version: take throne, rob country, carefully placing evidence of prince's corruption in a "secure" location where it can be easily found, stage "free and fair elections," which will give throne to prince's favorite general, and head for a comfortable exile in Ruritania.

Take the throne and keep it

...at least until all the holes I found are reasonably patched up.

No, don't tell anyone about it, you get framed for telling about it in this society.

Rather write a general How-to-fix-it, publish and eventually find a new job as a security Pope somewhere else.

    Cheers, Sören

I'd put different fools on throne in an 8-hour rhythm.

Why did you vote to reap the funniest answer?

Update: Nevermind...I know it must have been a case of E_NO_GET_JOKE :-)

    1. Take the Throne
    2. Use my access to grab all the info I could about the Prince's surveillance excesses
    3. Leave the Kingdom and travel to another that I believe is 'far more open' than the original, but has a very strong extradition treaty with my homeland
    4. Leave *that* Kingdom for yet another that also claims to be 'far more open', but has an unparalleled legacy of spying on its own people
    5. Live like Tom Hanks in The Terminal in that Kingdom while their King keeps changing his story about what my options are
    6. Keep wondering what the weather is like in Honolulu right now, since this Kingdom's airport doesn't have wifi

Any similarities to any person, living or dead, are purely coincidental

First of all, no "inform the Prince" option?

Honestly, it would have to do with how I feel about the organization and my circumstances. If I was truly a pauper and I was struggling to feed my family, I may try to figure out a way to exploit the situation.

Isn't there an established way to proceed that ethical security researchers have developed? Privately contact the organization responsible for the security flaw and if they don't fix it in X number of days, go public with it?

Hmmm... Address it in X days or pay me $1x10^n to not go public with it.

Considering I'm too busy with the daily drudgeries of Pauperdom life, I don't have time to actively look for security holes. Any I discover would have to be completely obvious and smack me in the face. I would assume that if I found the hole, someone else knows about it too.

I disagree, the Pauper in the original story never actively looked for security holes either, he's found it by accident.
