    So can other Perl statements be inserted into above code?

        do { if( ... ) { ...; $return->last_statement; } }

        extra parenthesis -MO=Deparse,-p style

        ( ( if_condition_true() ) ? ( then_return_this() ) : ( else_return_this() ) )
