That's a possibility. One of the (many) uses is computing moving averages. I also thought of running, as in running sum; rolling as in rolling average. I think I'm favouring mapAdj as in map Adjacent or map Adjoining. I thought that for sure there would be a standard name for this, at least in functional languages/libraries, but looking around, it seems to be quite hard to code in Haskell or Clean.
