What to choose for a webgui and Microsoft SQL backend

Skeeve has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Dear fellow monks,

I'm a bit out of the current development I think. Today I got an interesting project where I would need to create some webgui to access a Microsoft Database.

I'd like to get some suggestions from you, what frameworks or perl modules to consider for this task.

many thanks in advance!

P.S. Authentication using LDAP (Active Directory) will also be required.

Don't overlook that Microsoft's database products these days usually provide a web back-end. You might not have to write anything in anything.

That sounds interesting... Thanks for the info. I have really no idea about microsoft. Using Mac and Ubuntu usually.

Uh huh.   Well, “love ’em or hate ’em,” ... and plan to use Internet Explorer for everything ... but Microsoft really does have a good grasp of the corporate-computing environment, and they do sell well-rounded tools.   Some of the goodies might be “optional installs,” but a surprising amount of functionality actually is there.   I, too, much prefer Unix/Linux environments, yet I must grudgingly admit that Redmond does know how to write (and, heh, li¢en$e...) software.

Whereas Unix/Linux prides itself upon being “generic,” the Microsoft® [Windows®, and a great deal more ...] environment takes a playbook directly from IBM:   it is completely proprietary and tightly integrated.   Yet, it is also complete.   Definitely be on the lookout for “reinventing the wheel” if most of your experience is with Lx/Ux.   It’s a culture shock.

Perl runs equally well in both environments, yet (IMHO ...) its role is somewhat different.

What do you mean by a Microsoft Database? Is it Access? Something else?

Mot Access. If I remember correctly my boss said "Microsoft SQL".
