    Q: When is an XY problem not an XY problem? A: When it isn't. This can be determined by reading the OP. When this happens, I also find it really annoying, but I don't think anything can be done about it. Since actual XY problems are common here, probably nothing should be done about it. However, as seen here, pointing out poor reading is the fast track to serious downvoting.
