There i was, steeped in code,
Trying to find that bug,
And all around there was no sound,
So late, yet deeper i dug.
I looked line by line,
It seemed to be fine,
Nothing but fail after fail,
I just couldn't find it,
I seemed just behind its
ever elusive trail.
Fighting off slumber,
I downed quite the number,
Coffee, my favorite caffiene,
I was oh so confounded,
By all that surrounded,
It managed to stay unseen.
"That's it!" i cried for the umpteenth time,
As if i'd listen and learn,
I'll start over clean,
It has to be seen,
How long can it have its turn?
I'll polish each statement,
And check its encasement,
Every variable must be declared,
I'll even go and use strict;
Cus' i'm getting ticked,
This bug was getting me scared.
After i "fixed", all those bugs that i "missed",
See?! use strict; was no help at all,
I added use warn;
And then till the morn,
I answered its beck and call.
I could no longer fight,
I had stayed up all night,
Sleep had finally won,
There i collapsed,
And hours had passed,
I slept until i was done.
Upon raising my head,
From this strange looking bed,
I ran the code like before,
It played like a song,
Nothing was wrong!
The bug had been banished once more.
In these times of need, i remember my creed,
In it: Bugs die in the night.
Distressed in bug searching mode?
Just sleep on your code,
By morning it'll all be alright.
