curses color bar graph?

has anyone figured out how to make a color bar graph using ncurses? So far all I can find is filling a progressbar with ascii characters, which doesn't quite meet the requirement....unless I can fill that progressbar with spaces that have a colored background (is that possible?)

So there you have it, if support is compiled in and available, you can have some colors, example in demo2
