Getting the key from the registry and decodeing it are two wholy differnt things

I will agree with you, Anonymous Monk try the other link that I have posted and let us know if it is working.

Update: Also take a look at (Win32API::Registry - Low-level access to Win32 system API calls from WINREG.H). It contains a lot of information regarding 32 bit WindowsOS and Perl.
