Discrepancy in reap notification message

by Athanasius (Archbishop)
on Apr 25, 2017 at 03:57 UTC ( [id://1188815]=monkdiscuss: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

I just voted “reap” on Re: Why do use Windows? Why u so stupid?. This must have been the deciding vote, because the following immediately appeared in my Chatterbox:

and all is quiet...

You said "I've reaped a node you considered: [id://1188771] -- because: reap: trollage" to marto

But the corresponding entry in my Message Inbox is as follows:

told root Reaped node at: Reaped: Re: Why do use Windows? Why u so stupid? because [marto]: reap: trollage

Besides the obvious formatting problem in the first message, there is a discrepancy regarding the recipient: was it sent to marto or to root? I’m guessing that the Chatterbox message has marto by mistake — because he considered the node?

Currently if you consider a node you are send message saying it has been reaped. If you cast the vote which auto reaps the node you see what you observed above.

Thanks for the tip. I have just put out a patch which changes this behavior. I ask everyone to keep an eye out for the new behavior and let me know if it's different/better.

I reckon we are the only monastery ever to have a dungeon stuffed with 16,000 zombies.
Thanks for your contributions to develop our site! :)

      Hi,

So what is supposed to happen, who is supposed to get the notification, root, OP or consider-er?

I'm asking people who vote 'reap' and find that they have cast the deciding vote -- the one which actually triggers the reap -- to take note of what notification they see in their cb nodelet, if any.

I think the original idea was only to inform the original considerer - here marto.

Anything else is probably a bug.

Even if it were meant to be send to the one who originally considered the node, how did the message show up on Athanasius's CB stream? Is it a bug?

I just received this /msg when voting reap on Reaped: Re: Inline::C producing an absurd result; which is a little confusing?

You said "Reaped node at: <a href="?node_id=1189806">Reaped: Re: Inlin +e::C producing an absurd result</a> because &#91;<a href="?node=hippo +">hippo</a>&#93;: Reap: signal-free" to root

Yes, that is a little confusing, but that really is what you "said"* to root. The message appears in root's inbox like this:

BrowserUk says Reaped node at: Reaped: Re: Inline::C producing an absurd result because [hippo]: Reap: signal-free

But you're right, I'm not sure we like that better than how used to look before my last patch, as in this.

I reckon we are the only monastery ever to have a dungeon stuffed with 16,000 zombies.
but that really is what you "said"* to root.

Fair enough. Once you know what to expect, it's not a problem (for me).
