I knew BASIC, but installed Linux and didn't find a good BASIC compiler for it. So i was searching for another language. I found perl and loved it.
It was Perl 4 at first, but then, I installed Perl 5. It took a while before I realised Perl 5 offered references and objects so I was still coding ugly code :)
