Have you considered looking into Data::BFDump from one of our own monks, demerphq here? In many cases, it solves some problems found in Data::Dumper. He explains one reason why it exists on his diary page (sorry demerphq for referencing you diary entry on it, but it was the only place I could find that shows some background on it).
