I was thinking, having seen Compare Perl vs PHP and Win32::ODBC undefined DSN in two days, both good questions, and valid in their forum, but repeatedly asked that we could make an area called Frequent Newbie Questions and then link each question to the many discussions that relate. That way a newbie can look there and see if the question has been asked and answered.

You could even list the 10 top rated answers to each question with a link back to their individual threads.

Replies are listed 'Best First'.

You're assuming newbies would actually look there before posting their question. My experiences on Usenet would tend to contraindicate that assumption :-)

Besides, we already have Categorized Q&A, which should serve that purpose.

You could make it so anonymous monks and level 1 users have a random set of newbie area questions appear first on the monastery gates.
Hey, I like that idea. The link back to the Newbie Question Area, or the Categorized Q&A, would make them more likely to look there before posting.

Well yeah, I know that that doesn't often happen, but I was thinking that right on the main link bar it would list Frequent Newbie Questions. Perhaps it could even be bolded for AM and Level 1, and then we have the option of turning it off if we don't want to look at it.
