Should the site post a message that a post was updated? Say the time and the user?

People can mod their posts especially if they are getting knocked for a comment.

Just a random thought on a bored Sunday night.

Are you suggesting that posts should have version tracking, or something more complicated than that? Like:
    Updated by jaybonci, 2003-02-28, automatically?

Your suggestion is kind of vague. How would you envision that working?

Maybe the person updating their node could check a box like the "This is a significant update" box on the home-node editing page.   (People do seem to stamp their updates pretty consistently without automation.)

I was not thinking of version tracking per say.

Just simply along the lines that a person hits submit, and the updated message appears. Might I add that it probably would need time as well. So after the post, he goes back and changes something else, the date and time would get updated.

      Does that make sense?

I think I saw this with the vBulletin software.

Posting a message (where?) might be a bit spammy, but it would be kind of neat to be able to follow a thread, and have an indication on login (a new nodelet? /msgs from root would be just as bad) of which threads have changed.

    UPDATE

I swear it made sense when I entered it.

What I mean is that when a person modifies their post, the system should enter a modified by person and time to the posted message.

This way people can be informed that the original post was modifed versus depended on a person to leave a note they did.

It would also tell the poster if an editor did something to the post.

Like I said a random thought and maybe it wont work here.
