Top Ten ways you know you are a Perl Monks Addict.

by zdog (Priest)

These are the Top Ten ways you know if you are a Perl Monks Addict (PMA):

10. For breakfast you have pancakes and eggs with a side of bacon and PM.
9. You can't sleep when you get a -1 rep on a node you posted.
8. You throw a party every time you gain a level on Perl Monks.
7. You name your children after popular Perl Monks.
6. You change your middle name to "JAPH".
5. You have nightmares that Perl Monks was hacked into and destroyed.
4. You collect Perl Monks action figures.
3. You fill your closet with nothing, but the soon to come Perl Monks apparel.
2. You accuse anyone speaking about another programming language at Perl Monks of blasphemy and you want to excommunicate them.
1. You have a browser window opened 24/7/365 to perlmonks.org .

If you can say, "Yes, I do that," to at least some of these, then you probably are a PMA.

Thank you for your time.

P.S. If you can believe it or not, #5 actually happened to me.

I especially like #4 - PM Action Figures
They could be based on the images in the top o' screen rotation.

I'd like to offer a corrolary to zdog's Top 10:
You know you're in the company of PM Junkies when...     you stay up an hour late at PM then wake up an hour early to hit PM, and the same monks from across the globe are still at the Monastery.    <big grin>
        cheers,
        ybiC

My action figure has a kung-fu grip! His secret power is eval().
        $_, shouldn't that be?

My action figure has a kung-foo grep()!?

        #!/home/bbq/bin/perl
        # Trust no1!
My action figure comes with the Buddha Belly attack, and two empty Surge bottles to throw. His secret power is Benchmark, which he does obsessively....
The number one PerlMonks action figure - Vroom with "The Mule", and the "Old Server Target Pack".

      I'd buy one...

      - email Ozymandias

        Oooh, I like.

If I act now can I also get the bonus Schwartzian Transformer action figure, the secret PerlMonks map (), and, and, oh dang, I forget-- which one is that has the +10 regexp of death and +20 ob-fu of confusion?

My action figure comes with their own perlmonks robe. Their secret power is quoting regular expressions that make the bad guy's head spin.

I knew that some of the guys that I worked with (you know who you are maverick) and I were on perlmonks when we happened to simultaneously reload perlmonks, and at the same exact second we reloaded, we both got a server error. Simultaneously we both made a very homer-simpson-ish "doh" sound, and then stared at each other from accross the hall, because we realized what had just happened... i'm telling you... this stuff's addictive.

    11. You create a Top Ten ways you know you are a Perl Monks Addict when list....
    12. You reply to said list with your own entries...doh!

This has actually happened to me lately :-)

    13. You instinctively look for the "++" and "--" buttons in other places (like Slashdot, mailing lists, etc.)
    14. The inverse: When you post something to a non-PerlMonks forum (Slashdot, mailing lists, etc.) you instictively try to go back and see how much rep your post has gained or lost.

    --ZZamboni

      15) Your name is *always* in the Other Users box...

      --Chris

      e-mail jcwren
What if it is always there when you look? Should that be taken as a sign it is always there..?
Odd .... I never see my name in the "Other Users" box....

When you look on Newest Nodes, there's five posts, and four are yours. (This just happened to me.)

Now we also have diagnostic criteria for: ChatterBox Addictions

    Update:

You know you're addicted to PerlMonks when...

"Dinner with friends" means a cold slice of pizza while typing in the ChatterBox...

You adjust your wake/sleep cycles around the time you get your new supply of votes...
