in thread Deep Linkage

It is a bit of a stretch to get that out of what I said. Obviously, you are using PerlMonks content to get visitors to your stats page.

Um... correct me if I'm wrong, but... isn't the whole purpose of the stats page to serve the PerlMonks community? So, yes, PerlMonks content would in fact be a good thing there.

Yes, and it is also why it is so wrong for everybody to flog me, for feeling that my content was being misused. If it is supposed to be an added service, but the person it's being added to doesn't like it, that should be honored.

Hmmm... nope. It's added service for the community, using resources you and everyone else gave the community. Where's the conflict?

I think it's incredibly arrogant of you to assume that I wrote the stats page so I could see my Apache logfiles grow. The whole stats project was a result of two goals:

One was a learning project for PHP4. I believe that every language has a place. Perl is a greate language, but PHP4 was an unexplored medium for me, and I found that this project lended itself well to such an exercise. It interfaces into a database, required argument processing, etc.

The second was to satisfy a craving in PM statistics. Sure, I could generate the numbers by hand, and then watch them be out of date within seconds. Not much point in statistics that aren't current.

I might not even have advertised the page on PM, had it not been for a couple of other users who expressed an interest in PM statistics.

I've generally avoided this Deep Linkage thread. Fact is, I really don't care. Until the court tells me not to do it, or vroom tells me not to do it, it's not changing.

    End of discussion.

What an amazingly concise, mature and reasonable response. I commend you on showing us what incredible argumentative ability you have.

Not to be OT (is there really a T at this point?), but I didn't know about the stats page before, and I think it's really cool, especially because it features My Blue Monkey

The Autonomic Pilot; it's FunkyTown, babe.
