in reply to Tried and True CPAN Modules

Of course, here's another idea to heap on the fire...

Require a live email address, with a round trip of emails to verify, prior to download. Then, in 24 -48 hours, email a standardized survey about the module. Reply-to goes to a botbox, gets parsed, results databased, maybe a free-form comments section gets posted ala amazon.com reviews... etc.

O'course, it's hard for me to imagine many people sitting still for a CPAN-enforced behavior like this.

But, just maybe...

    No No NO NO NO!.

For one, it's completely stupid. I download a bunch of modules to try them out, then delete 80%++ of them once I find the one I want. Do I have to register and reply back for all 10 modules I might d/l?

What about the fact that I might be at work? Should I have a work email and a home email and an on-the-road email (for my laptop)? That's three times the usage.

For crying out loud, leave CPAN alone!

      lol. Made me laugh.

And proved my comment above - "O'course, it's hard for me to imagine many people sitting still for a CPAN-enforced behavior like this."

Apparantly others agree with you, and possibly me too, from the downvoting of my node.

      lol
