I haven't see the 3rd Camel, but I remember vividly when I got my copy of the 2nd Camel how different it was from the 1st Camel.
All sorts of things had changed, not least of which the language (perl4 -> perl5). The Cookbook section was missing - ahhh!
That said having read both books from cover to cover I think Camel 2 was a great improvement on Camel 1 - if a similar amount of effort went into the change to the 3rd version then it will be excellent I'm sure! | [reply] |
I tend to agree somewhat, but the fact is that I know the problem would go away if I read through C-3 the way I read through C-2. Actually from the little bit of bedtime cuddling with the Camel-3 that I have done so far, I think that the text is a huge improvement over C-2

Please tell me they put the function names at the top edge of
the page (like in a dictionary). That would be really, really nice and might
even convince me to add it to my growing Camel book collection. :)

I'm afraid not. They do have little icons which tell if it uses $_, taints data etc. which is a nice touch. The function reference is actually only a small part of this whopping 1,066 page (50% bigger) compendium.
It's worth getting, it's just different to what I've been practically attached to the last couple of years.
