This is slightly OT, but I've found a useful seat of the pants metric for good/bad and in between is 'how hard is this code to maintain?' Given the number of long portions of code that I've had to chop up into smaller pieces my general inclination is to say 'short is mostly better'. --hsm "Never try to teach a pig to sing...it wastes your time and it annoys the pig."
