Just a note. In an open source project, it is usually a waste of time to try to convince someone to change the project for your benefit. Nothing gets things done like volunteering to put in the effort. I would therefore suggest a different approach, namely:

<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be

have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
