Fellows Monks!
I am banging my head as to where to get started with this one. (this is not homework). I need your help/insight.
I have a field of data points that fall inside and outside a complex polygon. The goal is to determine which points reside inside, which outside and perform a different operation on either respective type.
Obviously I want to do this using perl; my generalized thoughts on the matter for how to do it are:
the plan---
- first: define an equation for the complex polygon?
- second: determine points inside, do something to them
- third: determine points outside, do different something to them
Essentially, I have the outline as to what I want to do, but no real clue as to where to begin.
Is there a module(s) out there that will do this sort of thing?
Any help that you can provide in this matter will be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks in advance.

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>

Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
