I am not a fan of having code differ between development
and production. Basically you have a portability problem
here. Read this excellent advice on
portability
and my notes on how to interpret it. If you
do it right you should have a very small number of key
modules that set up your environment and then have your
development code run exactly the same way in production.
This will be a simpler environment to work in, be easier
for development, easier for testing, and you will be able
to avoid fears that the differences between development
and production are biting you yet again...

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
