I'm not sure what you mean by that. You can set ANY file in unix to execute (assuming you have the perms to do so.) You can make an mp3 file 'executable' if you want to. You certainly don't need a compiler.

octal number; otherwise it is interpreted as a symbolic mode mask

chmod(1). If mode is omitted, the current value of the mask is printe

mask to be printed in symbolic form; the default output is an octal
+ number. If the -p
option is supplied, and mode is omitted, the output is in a form that

The return status is 0 if the mode was successfully changed or if no m

and false otherwise.
