( [id://3333]=superdoc: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

PerlMonks,

I've only been a member here for about 2 and a half days, and I recently posted my first question in Seekers of Perl Wisdom. The response was absolutely amazing. I thought this would be a fun, useful experience, but I was completely blown away by how useful it really is to receive guidance to a problem from so many points of view. I have, since reading all of the posted replies, learned two new skills with which I am coding more effectively, techniques for using operators I was not yet aware of, research procedures and despite the fact that I have been terrified of approaching a hash, I have now written my first successfully as a result of an idea in a reply :)

So, thank you all so very much, I can now see the immense benefit of this site, and just what it can do for someone earnestly dedicated to pursuing the knowledge and wisdom needed to begin coding effectively in Perl. I am completely convinced, that this site is a great benefit to the Perl community.

All that having been said, my point, was to bring up what the proper mode of writting a thank you such as my previous one, would be. I'm not sure if this forum is quite the right place, but it certainly wouldn't be appropriate any where else. Also, seeing as how I got quite a few replies, a single private message to each replier would be a bit of an over kill. Don't get me wrong, I certainly don't intend to do this every time someone gives me a reply (I'm in no hurry to be strangled out of sheer annoyance :), but as a one time thing, a thank you and acknowledgment of a new user, as to the appreciation of access to the site and the benefit of experienced programmers donating their time, I think should be posted at least once in a while, hopefully I chose the correct manner in which to do this. Sort of like your "Welcome Page", I guess this would be my ( the rookie's ) ("Thank You Page ). I would suggest a "Thank You Page", except that common sense tells me that this probably wouldn't benefit the entire site, but rather, specific monks, and seeing as how if the administrators didn't go out of their way to filter additions that weren't an absolute benefit to all, the site wouldn't be as good as it is, and it therefore wouldn't elicit a thank you page anyhow.

So, thanks PerlMonks, I learned quite a bit from those of you who responded, and wanted to say thank you for the time and effort. :)

Title:
Use:  <p> text here (a paragraph) </p>
and:  <code> code here </code>
to format your post; it's "PerlMonks-approved HTML":

  • Are you posting in the right place? Check out Where do I post X? to know for sure.
  • Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
    <code> <a> <b> <big> <blockquote> <br /> <dd> <dl> <dt> <em> <font> <h1> <h2> <h3> <h4> <h5> <h6> <hr /> <i> <li> <nbsp> <ol> <p> <small> <strike> <strong> <table> <td> <th> <tr> <tt> <u> <ul>
  • Snippets of code should be wrapped in <code> tags not <pre> tags. In fact, <pre> tags should generally be avoided. If they must be used, extreme care should be taken to ensure that their contents do not have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor intervention).
