I think that I can assert that there is only one point in any list where such a constraint would be true in a list with an even number of elements
Even without ordering, that's not true.
(1 2 3 4 5 6):
(1 2 3) (4 5 6) d=9
(1 2 4) (3 5 6) d=7
(1 2 5) (3 4 6) d=5
(1 2 6) (3 4 5) d=3
(1 3 4) (2 5 6) d=5
(1 3 5) (2 4 6) d=3
(1 3 6) (2 4 5) d=1 <--
(1 4 5) (2 3 6) d=1 <-- solutions
(1 4 6) (2 3 5) d=1 <--
(1 5 6) (2 3 4) d=3

Posts may use any of the Perl Monks Approved HTML tags. Currently these include the following:
<code> <a> <b> <big>
<blockquote> <br /> <dd>
<dl> <dt> <em> <font>
<h1> <h2> <h3> <h4>
<h5> <h6> <hr /> <i>
<li> <nbsp> <ol> <p>
<small> <strike> <strong>
  <table>
<td> <th> <tr> <tt>
<u> <ul>
-
Snippets of code should be wrapped in
<code> tags not
<pre> tags. In fact, <pre>
tags should generally be avoided. If they must
be used, extreme care should be
taken to ensure that their contents do not
have long lines (<70 chars), in order to prevent
horizontal scrolling (and possible janitor
intervention).
