T-shirt

on Sep 29, 2000 at 16:39 UTC ( [id://34588]=perlmeditation: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

Man, I could go for a PerlMonks T-shirt. Actually, I would like to be walking down the street and see someone with a PerlMonks T-shirt on.

While I'm dreaming, I want to be a Viking.

...A rich Viking

...with a boat.

...not some crappy wooden Viking boat either. I want I big boat like them rap guys on the MTV.

But then I'd have to get a slip for it and store it through the winter in the marina, which is big bucks. And I'd always be scrubbing barnicles instead of plundering. All my little Viking kids (Leif, Erik, Thor, Freya, etc.) would always be bugging me to take them for a ride around the bay, and then they'd use the boat for teenage beer blasts, for which I'd get in trouble (for supplying booze to minors). Then the cops would take away my boat as evidence. Sure I'd try to plunder the cops, but of course, I'd have hocked my sword for the slip at the marina. And what the heck is a Viking without a boat and a sword? Nothing, that's what. Nothing.

Maybe I'd just like a T-shirt...

We're gonna be selling t-shirts and stickers in the near future hopefully. I've been busy with school and the time I have spent coding for work has been on the web store so I haven't been around here much. Hopefully within a week or so you'll be able to buy Perl Monks garb and stickers to place on your Perl bashing web technology professors' car/books/laptops/forehead. It might be longer for you international folks with the additional shipping calculations unless you want to just give me your credit card numbers and trust me to do the right thing...

Erm... has it occured to you that Vikings and Monks really aren't the best of friends? Like, for ten centuries or so, Vikings just went along going, "Hwaet, Olaf, what ye wanna du?" "Weel-a, Hrothgar, mebbe ve gu i-viking, sail down the coast of Eire, and sack anuther monestary. Then ve can-a get some good stoof, chop up some moonks, and mebbe rape a few noons."

So, Mr.Bite-the-heads-offa-small-flying-critters, I gotta warn ya, times have changed. Y'all come crashing through my door with your big battle axe, while I'm sifting through obscure Perlish manuscripts, and I'll have to bust a cap in your Norwegian keister.

Hmm... on the other hand, a t-shirt would be cool...

Good point, anybody up for perlvikings.org? We could slaughter those perlmonks.org guys!
As they say, "It takes a Viking to raze a village." ;-)

    I'd pay money for a PM tee-shirt.

Perhaps if enough Monks are interested, vroom might be persuaded to have another run of shirts produced.   Maybe even net a bit o' profit for his time and effort.

from Our Fearless Leader in June:   Perl Monks Apparel Design Work Continues...

Update: I probably mis-spoke above.   I don't know that there was a "first run" of tee-shirts - assumed there was and that I had just missed it.   No reasonable Monk would fault The Mighty Vroom for being busy with school and PM coding.   If I had connections with shirt/logo folks, I'd offer to help.   Alas, all I can offer is moral support (and cash for a shirt {grin}).
        cheers,

T-Shirted Viking Saga

I see this all the time:
    • Boy aspires to be a viking
    • Boy considers implications of being a viking
    • Boy considers viking offspring
    • Boy considers legal repercussions of imagined offsprings shenanigans
    • Boy instead, becomes Perl Hacker and craves T-shirt

Yngwie Malmsteen's "I am a viking" should have had a verse about this.

Huh? A PerlMonks Party Boat? When? Where? Can I come? :-)

Hey, Dr. Vroom, When you make all those cool T-shirts and stickers... you think you could make some Mugs too? If you do, I'll need a couple so that my co-workers don't steal mine off my desk.

No, no, no, you've got it all wrong. You CAN do it! You just have to skip the slip and sail south where it's warm for the winter. Then you can keep your sword and plunder a computer warehouse for laptops. With solar cells for sails a modern viking could code at sea for months without docking.

I'd buy a perl monks t-shirt. I already have one of the #!/usr/bin/perl stickers from ThinkGeek on my car.

As long as you are wishing, I want a pony too. =) And if t -shirts are made, make a few real big for us chubby monks.

And hats... Mmm a nice hat to wear when the /. one is in the laundry. But mostly, the pony, thanks...

    $you = new YOU;
    honk() if $you->love(perl)

But also make some littler ones for us littler monks. I have all these cool puter shirts (like one from O'Reilly with a camel on it) that are huge!

I would like someone to design icons to display on a webpage your level or experience.Well maybe even some lapel pins would be in order. While we were at it,we certainly need to have class rings for each level achieved.I think gold necklaces with large crosses would be nice as well. The larger the cross the closer to sainthood. If not I'll take a T-shirt

    Dreaming of perl

Monks eschew jewelry and other material trappings - a simple robe is enough. Besides, monks and crosses makes me think of Father Dure *shudder*.

I think the T-Shirt idea rocks. Would there be different T-shirts to incorporate the different nomenclature of monk: kung foo fighting Shaolin Monks, Fat Jolly Franciscans, Boozy Dominican, etc.?

Each of these idioms is encapsulated in the 'average' Perl Monk.

I think the idea of making differentiating rank is unwise.
