Actually, reminds me of a little known fact. Colonel Saunders wasn't actually a Colonel. He was in fact a conciensious objector - believe it or not.

"Stinky, Rotten Chicken", they used to say to him.

Not to be pedantic, but it's in my nature: it's the Big Mac that consists of "two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun". The Whopper has one big patty (unless you get a Double Whopper, of course)....

I think that the Big Mac uses the two tiny "regular hamburger" patties because Ray Croc was trying to simplify preparation -- only one size of patty to grill. The Quarter-pounder was introduced after his death, IIRC.

You're not just being pedantic... it's driving me frickin nuts just seeing that glaring mistake. Whopper is like the exact opposite of Big Mac. *Sigh*
------------ :Wq Not an editor command: Wq
Why do you assume it is a mistake? I assumed the opposite.
Yes but whatever size, shape or weight they still taste of cardbroad.
That sir is an insult to good high quality corigated cardboard.
The big mac does indeed use two tiny 'regular hamburger' patties. The 'special sauce' is so well-preserved that it requires little refrigeration. Don't look too carefully at the lettuce.

Ask me about the grease trap sometime! It's my favorite story from my time under the arches.

It should work perfectly the first time! - toma

Argh! I missed the "Malted milk core" option before I voted!!!! Definately my kind of Whopper! I like to poke holes in them and stick them in the fridge for a week so that the inside gets that taffy like consistincy. Yummmmmm! I alway look forward to finding a few of those in each box. :)

I love the malted milk core! I totally forgot about Whoppers until I read this. I haven't seen them in Germany though, I wonder if I can get them here cause now I got a craving for them!

Try looking for "crunchies" instead; they seem to be the same thing.

Are you also an american living in Germany?

        I sure am. :)
I had asked someone about Whoppers here and he said there is something that sounds like what I described, maybe he was thinking of crunchies, but I haven't looked yet(just had wisdom teeth removed and it would have been hard to eat that kind of stuff..)

You can buy Whoppers (in and out of US) at My Favoite Candy, and along with freezing whoppers they make a nice Pie.

For those of you who don't know what whoppers are Hersheys offers a description.

Every seventeen hours somewhere in the world
The doors are flung wide open the banners are unfurled
The table tops are gleaming the crew are standing by
With uniforms all freshly pressed and a twinkle in their eye

    Chorus:
    Golden arches across the world
    Golden arches across the world
Ronald McDonald is here to say
Some fries with that? Now have a nice day!
Golden arches march across the world

Every seventeen hours from Waikiki to Spain
From Melbourne to Chicago the menu is the same
In Auckland it's a Beg Mec, Le Big in gay Paree
Makudonarudu-San in Tokyo but it's hamburger to me

    Chorus

Another true blue nephew of his dear old Uncle Sam
Spreading yankee doodle dandy throughout every land
It's wonderful to travel, to see a place or two
But nicer still to know there's golden arches there for you

Every seventeen hours on every continent
From Africa to Asia golden arches represent
The finest in our young folk, the flag and apple pie
The world will be as one when golden arches fill the sky

    Chorus (twice)

"Golden Arches" by Judy Small, from "Home Front"; (c) 1988 Crafy Maid Music, (c) 1990 Larrikin Music Publishing

(cited in full here without permission as a stretch of fair use :)

I wonder if by "every seventeen hours" the author means "for seventeen hours each day". Are there really McDonald's across the world flinging their doors open once every seventeen hours? If she's referring to separate McDonald's across the world, what's the significance of any two McDonald's restaurants being seventeen time zones apart?

I believe she meant that at the time the song was written, new McDonalds were opening at a rate of almost 500 a year, or every 17 hours.

      Big Mac, Filet-o-fish,
      Quarter Pounder, french fries,
      Icy cokes, thick shakes,
      Sundaes and apple pie!

(relying upon my memory so the wording may be off a bit)

i wonder where did you got the term golden arches relating for mcd but its actually a franchise company for mcd's..

It's all about the cheese! There is no ingredient in existence that beats the flavour of cheese. Cheese is da bomb :)

Jules: "What do they call a Whopper in France?"

Nothing, actually. Burger King went bust in France in the 90's. They made some serious marketing blunders when they started out and never recovered. There is MacDonald's though. They pronounce Big Mac like this: beeg mac, and the brand name MacDonald's tends to be abbreviated to Mac d'oh.

Update: oops, beg your pardon. As I never go into those places, never mind eat the poisonous crap they try to pass off as food, I'm not really familiar with the spelling (they shoulda named it "Big Mc"). My apologies to the Scotch, err, Scottish people :)

Right, except that it's McDonald's. Making that mistake could get you some mighty hurting in Scotland I hear. In any event, there was no use trying to set the Belgians straight, just as with Leevees jeans.

In Pulp Fiction they say the Big Mac in France is called a 'Royale with Cheese'. Now I know that's not French but Pulp Fiction is a good film !
I don't know I only went to McDonalds.
pssst...you mean Quarter Pounder with Cheese, else the answer to the question doesn't make sense. :-)

I like those Extreme Bacon and Cheese Whoppers, my goodness those are tasty. I feel like I've sinned everytime I eat one of those though.

The best thing, for me, is that they are so tasty and therefore unhealthy. Yes, I might die early, but who would want to live long in such a self-obsessed/health-conscious society like ours? I don't want to be 90 years old, shuffling through a rest home in my adult diapers, thinking "Damn, I could have had a bratwurst!"

Obviously the lettuce has to be the best part of the wopper. Mmmmm, green stuff. That crunchiness. How the sweet flavor of ruffage exudes the cleanliness of the innereds.

Well, since there aren't any votes for lettuce (at this time), you can see that Telling them got my vote!

it's all about the pickles. I don't care much for the McDonalds pickles -- I like Burger King pickles because they have ridges!

The best thing about whoppers is... not a whopper.

OK, Ignoring the fact that the ingredients list is actually that of a Big Mac™ and not a Whopper™, I must vote against the whopper entirely.

While any burger at Hungry Jack's (as Burger King is known locally) is better than any burger at McDonalds, I have to tell you that the best of the best is by far the 'Double cheese burger, add bacon' -- not to be confused with the 'Double Cheese and Bacon burger' which comes with heaps of rabbit food.

Remember, insist that you want the double cheeseburger and that you want them to add bacon. Don't be fooled by the double cheese AND bacon burger.
