I know some people like to change a followup's title entirely (I'll not pass judgement on whether or not that is a good idea; I'll just point out that it happens). That would get clobbered too. Someone might not like that. ;)

    Nothing stopping them either. If you change the title you change the title. All that will happen is the automatic title you first see will be constructed using this mechanism.

    merlyn for instance can still use his annoying • stuff, it just wont get accidentally strewn throughout the replies to his nodes.

        And this is the answer. I thought it might spot the "Re" and keep only the stuff after it, but I guess the trailing paren (or something) saved me.
