Feature announcement: XP Quips

Allo, all. There's a fun new feature: XP Quips. Go to user settings, and find the checkbox marked "Show quips on XP loss/gain messages". If you turn this on, you'll get fun little quips in the XP nodlet when you gain or loose XP. If you're too fragle to deal with a little automated fun mocking, then keep the checkbox off, and live without that little bit of humor.

Oh, and if you think lots of the messages are too harsh, turn off the checkbox. If there's one or two you disagree with, or find disagreeable, then reply to this message, and we'll consider... or, of course, if you think we missed a real hum-dinger, let us know... also by replying to this message.

Just tested it out (had to burn a few votes to do it - please pardon the wanton abuse of the voting system). I got this message: Callo, callay, oh frabjous day! My research (source) shows it should be: O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! -- edan	[reply]

I like it! But I'm not so sure about castaway (see her Voting system idea..) because it creates yet annother reason to vote without no reason (or just to see the next quip). pelagic	[reply]

This seems to work correctly (showing a quip) when I gain experience through the act of voting. But when I return the the site after having gained XP because others have upvoted my node(s) I see no quip, just the 'you have gained x XP'. Is this a bug, or a deliberate omission? It's sort-of deliberate. One of the random quips is the empty string. Do not rebuke them with harsh words ... but rather lead them gently - with URLs - so that they may learn wisdom.	[reply]
