Take a look at the base system packages in your installation which install lots of binaries in /bin, /usr/bin, /sbin etc. Dig through the corresponding manpages. There are quite a few gems in there; few people know much of even the basic Unix tool set. I'm not done exploring myself. Makeshifts last the longest.
