Q: re CB

I must say that I do not use the CB, however I have included it in my nodelets for I want to be notified when I receive private messages in my inbox, including (root's) notifications of replies to my posts.

I have searched around but it seems to me that this is a feature of CB. However it is in some sense logically distinct from it. Is there any facility in this sense?

    /chatteroff
    --Artist
Thank you so much. Is there any way to enable this by default? (Say, on login)

One way is to change your initial bookmark that you use to pull the site up. Add something like this:

        http://perlmonks.org/index.pl?node_id=XXXX&op=message&message=/chatter +off&message_send=talk
Where XXXX is your entry node of choice. Since i keep a permanent cookie, there is no need for me to log on again and again. Personally, i think you should join in the CB fun! >:)

        jeffa

        L-LL-L--L-LL-L--L-LL-L--
        -R--R-RR-R--R-RR-R--R-RR
        B--B--B--B--B--B--B--B--
        H---H---H---H---H---H---
        (the triplet paradiddle with high-hat)

Since the OP stated that they do not use the CB, I just thought I'd clarify what artist said. Enter /chatteroff into the text box on the CB and press talk. This will ignore all public messages. To turn public messages back on enter /chatteron.
update: Your previous state should be remembered if you log out.
Thank you for the clarification, but however dumb I actually am, I did understand what it meant, due to the evident meta-command appearance. As I said, thank you in any case...

/chatteroff should last across logins; it's saved the same way User Settings are. It should continue until you do a /chatteron.

Also, I'll mention Message Inbox, in case you hadn't found that yet.

Hmmm, it doesn't seem to be the case. But maybe that depends on some other user setting, and I must admit I didn't search very deeply. I'll do it ASAP.

Update: it seems that I was utterly wrong, indeed "that" is the case. Still I wonder why I got the impression it was not. With this, I'll add: problem solved!

Well, of course I did find that, and I was thinking of using it as my entry point, but I prefer to go there only if need be, i.e. if there are "new entries" and notification in a nodelet, as with CB (with /chatteroff) is best suited for my needs in this sense.
