Not strictly related but I thought I'd mention that there are also RSS feeds to perlmonks available at
http://prlmnks.org/rsshttp://prlmnks.org/rss-feeds.html. You can subscribe to overview feeds such as 'new questions' or 'new meditations'.
You can also subscribe to feeds for individual nodes to see if they have any replies. For example this node could be watched using http://prlmnks.org/rss/458722.xml. This is useful as replies to replies do not cause you to recieve a message as they may not be a reply to a node you authored.
