Re: (3) I think something less specific to a particular belief system might be better. Hmmm...howabout "prophet" and "avatar"? Or take a concept from martial arts "belt" systems: just use colors attached to the saint level, or create a new level that would be "color"-ranked (ROYGBIV, the karate ordering, etc) ? Or use degrees like the masons? Just kicking around some ideas....

I like "Prophet" Thats a good suggestion. But which is higher? A prophet or a saint? I don't know. I also like the colors... I could strive to be a "Black Saint" :-)

As for the masons, how many times do I have to tell you, there is no Perl Illuminati!

I would think that Saint is because a prophet only predicts stuff, doesn't have to be all good and stuff like a saint (merlyn :-).

Hmmm ... anyway, tilly suggested bodhissatva. Well, no, but he spells it properly. I think the point being 'almost enlightened but staying around to help others' is way too apt to be missed here. Plus it gets a little less of the that Judeo/Christian/Islamic feel to this most ecumenical of sites.
